Dr. Ricardo Azziz is one of the preeminent PCOS researchers in the world today. It was an honor to speak with him this month. Ricardo Azziz, MD, MPH, MBA is a physician-scientist-executive who serves as Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology, Medicine, and Medical Humanities at the Georgia Regents University (GRU), Augusta, GA, the state of Georgia’s only public academic health center and health sciences university. He currently serves as President of GRU and as CEO of the GR Health System. He is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and of the American College of Surgeons, and has served as president of the Society of Reproductive Surgeons and as member of the board of directors of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. As a pioneer in the field of endoscopic pelvic reconstruction, Dr. Azziz has done extensive research in the area of postsurgical adhesion prevention, reproductive surgical outcomes, and surgical training, with numerous publications and textbooks in this field. Dr. Azziz has served in a number of advisory roles for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA), having served as Chair of the U.S. FDA Reproductive Health Drugs Advisory Committee. Among other recognitions, he is considered one of “America’s Top Doctors” (Castle Connolly Medical Ltd) since 2001. He formerly served on the faculties of the Johns Hopkins University, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and the University of California Los Angeles.
