An Apple a Day May Keep PCOS Symptoms Away

Apple picking season is one of my favorites. Living in Hollis, NH there seems to be an apple orchard on every corner.

Fruit is often vilified for women with PCOS. And it is important to be mindful of how much you eat and how if affects your blood sugar. In moderation, apples can have so many amazing health benefits.

Apples have been proven to help with weight loss and BMI

Unlike drinking a glass of apple juice, eating a whole apple is filling because they are high in fiber.

One study showed that eating whole apples increased feelings of fullness for up to 4 hours longer than consuming equal amounts of apple purée or juice. This is because whole apples reduce gastric emptying — the rate at which your stomach empties its contents.

An increasing feeling of fullness works as a weight-loss strategy, as it helps manage your appetite. This, in turn, might lead you to reduce your energy intake.

Research also suggests that eating apples may significantly reduce BMI, Type 2 Diabetes and risk of heart disease.

Interestingly, apple skins contain high amounts of polyphenol, these are antioxidants that may have anti-obesity effects.
