3 Hacks to Beat PCOS Hair Loss with Castor Oil
Guest post from Dr. Marisol, ND
Can you beat hair loss with castor oil? You bet you can!
We look in the mirror and what do we see? Our mane, long and luscious… Or wait… that is just our imagination, what we wish we had. In reality, our hair feels dry and brittle, it’s splitting at the ends and falling out in places. You would swear the amount that you left in the shower this morning was fit for the Guinness Book of World Records. PCOS hair loss is no joke.
I’m going to divulge my secret sauce to improving your hair. Not only the hair on your head, but also how to increase long, luscious lashes and thick, beautiful eyebrows. It isn’t only what you put on your hair that affects it. I’ll give you my 3 Step Fabulous Hair Formula. Ready? Let’s do this, Goldilocks-in-the-making! Why are women suffering with PCOS plagued by issues with hair? Too much in the wrong places, and not enough where you want it.
The History Castor Oil for Hair Loss
It’s all the buzz out there on the internet, how castor oil can help you grow your lovely hair again. Is it true? Or is it a myth created by marketers?
The history of the use of castor oil for hair and beauty dates back to the Ancient Egyptians. Cleopatra was renowned for her love of castor oil, as were the Mediterranean Goddesses of Rome and Greece.
How Does Castor Oil Prevent Hair Loss?
Castor oil is an incredible, inexpensive vegetable oil and has been shown to have cutting edge effects when it comes to helping hair grow long, strong, and luscious.
Its mechanism of action is mainly by increasing circulation and nourishment to the hair follicle. Castor oil has been shown to stimulate the production of nitric acid1, a natural body messenger responsible for improving blood flow. Castor oil is also an excellent topical source of nourishing omega 6, omega 9, and vitamin E2 3, as well as glutathione4, the master antioxidant of the body.
It’s also well known to reduce inflammation5, which damages hair follicles. The molecular structure of castor oil looks very similar to a messenger in the body known as a prostaglandin. For example, the reason you take fish oils is for your body to create these anti-inflammatory prostaglandins. So, when you put castor oil on topically, you are getting similar benefits that you would from taking a fish oil. And what’s even better, there is no fishy smell or after-taste, like there is with some fish oil!
Castor oil is also effective against dandruff caused by yeast. It is well known for its ability to reset the microbial balance of the skin, hair, and mucosal membrane of the gut. Good bugs equal healthy hair, bad bugs equal many more bad hair days.
As a weekly hair treatment to promote growth and thickness, massage castor oil into the scalp. ALWAYS use castor oil from a dark glass bottle, such as Queen of the Thrones™ castor oil. Then cover your hair with a bathing cap and go to bed. Wash your hair out in the morning.
This is the first step in a solid routine. However, if you only do this step, it will take you a very long time to get your hair in gear. The reason is that it isn’t only what you put on top of your hair that counts. As the saying goes, “It’s what’s on the inside that counts”.
What do Sleep, Melatonin, Eye Masks, and Healthy Hair Have in Common?
Would you believe that the quality of your sleep, and how much of it you get, affects the health and beauty of your hair?
Melatonin is one of the body’s natural messengers and hormones. It is not only in charge of helping you fall asleep, it’s linked to hair growth6 7.
It seems that women with PCOS have lower levels of melatonin. Increasing the levels of this important hormone have been shown to improve menstrual cycle, as well as reduce the elevated levels of androgens that cause hair loss where you want hair (on your head) and hair growth where you DON’T want it (on your upper lip and chin8).
With my PCOS, my sleep was incredibly disturbed. You may find this too. I had run lab tests that indicated that I had low levels of melatonin. The only problem was that I didn’t want to take another supplement since I was already on so many. I researched and found out that an easy way to both increase and enhance your melatonin was to simply wear an eye mask to bed9.
I had also found that my eyebrows were thinning in the wrong places and my eyelashes weren’t as luscious as they used to be (when I didn’t have all of these hormonal problems). As necessity is the mother of all invention, I combined both the eye mask and castor oil (my favorite beauty oil) in the Queen of the Thrones™ Beauty Sleep Eye Kit to both improve my melatonin levels and my sleep. It also helped me regain the beauty of my eyebrows and eyelashes of my youth, and reduce the fine lines and wrinkles around my eyes.
This kit takes one of the biggest cosmetic problems that women with PCOS face and provides a solution. It is so easy to use and here’s how:
- Dip the double ended eyebrow and eyelash brush into your bottle of Cosmetic Castor Oil™, then comb through your eyelashes and eyebrows, being sure to get the base.
- Take castor oil in the palm of your hand and gently blot the oil around the gentle skin surrounding your eyes
- Get into bed and place your eye mask over your eyes to help the castor oil absorb deeply into your skin and roots of the eyebrows and eyelashes.
Castor oil packs for PCOS Hair Loss
It isn’t sufficient to only put castor oil on our hair, and improve our melatonin so we can have a good night sleep and encourage hair growth. We need to also be digesting our food well, absorbing nourishment so we can feed our hair what it needs to grow long and strong.
Castor oil packs are my favorite tool to improve your digestion, absorption and elimination. Yes, they will make you poo more.
Castor oil packs are now easier than ever before with the Queen of the Thrones™ Castor Oil Pack. They not only help with improving your gut function10 11, but also provide nourishment, reduce inflammation throughout the entire body, reduce stress (which can aggravate those nasty androgens that make hair grow in the wrong places), plus they help reset your ever important microbiome15 16 17.
With all of these amazing benefits, it’s clear that the castor oil pack not only helps with hair growth, but also helps to ease your PCOS symptoms. For more about how castor oil can help digestive issues such as gas, constipation, IBS, and more, check out the PCOS Diva Digestion mini-course.
3 Step Fabulous Hair Formula
So, to sum it all up:
- Apply castor oil from a glass bottle topically to your scalp, once a week.
- Wear your Beauty Sleep Eye Kit to bed nightly to naturally boost melatonin, improve your eyebrows and eyelashes, and reduce fine lines and wrinkles around your eyes.
- Do your castor oil pack nightly, to better digest and absorb nutrients to feed your hair, and to also help balance out your hormones
Why Castor Oil in a Glass Bottle?
Never buy castor oil in a plastic bottle! It is a well-known as a carrier agent. If bottled in plastic, it will absorb and carry things like slip agents18, UV filters19 and other chemicals that leach from the bottle into the oil. These toxins disrupt your hormones. They also affect your nerves, making you stressed out and anxious, and weaken your immune system leaving you susceptible to being sick!
Always buy the highest quality cold-pressed, hexane-free, certified organic and extra virgin Queen of the Thrones™ castor oil.
How to Do Your Castor Oil Pack
The DIY Way:
You can make your own castor oil pack. My caveat is that it is quite messy and sometimes finding the right quality products can be really tough. If you want to go-it on your own, here’s how. That said, the Queen of Thrones Castor Oil Pack Bundle is super high-quality, quick, easy, and not messy!
The Easy Way:
Our Queen of Thrones Castor Oil Pack is super easy to do. It takes away the mess and stress, and allows you to move because it fits your PCOS Diva curves.
Wear the pack nightly for best results. Alternatively, you can try the 7-Day Technique. Wear it for 7 nights then take a break for 7 nights. Either way, it’s important to get into the habit of practicing the pack.
