I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2001 by a local fertility doctor when they saw I had 30 cysts on one ovary and 40 cysts on the other. At that time, since I was not trying to get pregnant, they put me on Metformin, Avandia, thyroid meds, and a few other things as well as sent me to a nutritionist for help with my eating. However, because of all the meds, I was always “SICK”. I went to my family doctor and after looking at all the medications I was taking, he decided to take me off all of them and start over. We did blood tests and found that my thyroid levels were very low and decided to start there.
It takes time for our bodies to change and get healthy, so I am looking forward to the next few months as I have changed my eating, added vitamins, exercise each week, and have been drinking lots of water .
I had regular periods from 2006-2011 and still had symptoms of PCOS. I was unable to lose weight no matter what I ate or how I exercised. I continued to feel tired and lost. Now jump up to July, 2011. In July, I began to bleed everyday. I would bleed just to bleed. I went to five doctors who all told me to go on birth control and take Metformin and it would go away. I am 37, have high blood pressure and am at high risk for birth control. I struggled with the answers they gave and I did not do what they asked me to do. I kept searching and looking for a solution, and decided not to give up until I got some answers.
I finally found HOPE! I met Amy Medling, woman who had PCOS and has a passion for women who PCOS. In working with her as my health coach, I realized that I had become my only advocate and needed to continue to do so to get the answers I needed. I went to a few other doctors and gave lists of specific blood tests I needed and did not give up until I got the answers I needed.
Along the way, I began to realize the best help for my body were things that were natural, whole and living. Amy recommended that I speak with a Dr. who had a plant derived product designed to help regulate menstrual bleeding. I decided to call him and see if what he offered was a good match for me. After realizing that I was the perfect candidate for Femmenessence, I purchased it and began taking it with my other daily vitamins. By the time my follow-up appointments came with my doctors, I was no longer bleeding. My doctors did not understand why I would have stopped bleeding and were very interested in this new product I was taking. I have improved my sleep patterns and feel less tired as well. I have been tracking my bleeding and started a regular menstrual cycle this week and am hoping this has helped my body to reset itself.
I have never felt better about myself nor have I ever seen myself as being able to have hope. I sit here crying because I am getting healthy! I am taking my life into my own hands. I am no longer a victim. I do not have to live like everyone else is going to fix it. I see life through new eyes and I have the ability to choose good things. To choose health. To choose self care. To choose self-nurture. To choose me.

UPDATE: Nelda recently sent me some before and after pics. She added, “I asked my Dr to change me to Armour back in Feb and it has helped me so much! I had been on Levoxyl for about 8 years. I also began taking my medicine at night. Amy helped me to go gluten-free, soy free, dairy free, as well as organic as much as possible! I hired a personal trainer and worked with her for 6 months. Exercise, eating well and taking time for yourself is so important! Between Wild Yam Root which helps balance hormones, and Armour, I have never felt better in my life!!”
